Day 25 - MacLeod's Campground to Mira River - Fri, July 12

It was time for us to leave our beautiful beach campsite at MacLeod's Campground and head on over to Mira River and the Louisbourg area.

Coffee one last time on this beach before we head on...

 On the beach...

We stopped for a very nice lunch at Dancing Goat Cafe and Bakery on the way.

Hmmm... I don't think I've ever seen those in Fernie.
Strange things we find here in Cape Breton!

We then stopped at the Alexander Graham Bell Museum in Baddeck. That man is incredible. He has accomplished so much in his life! Besides the telephone, he was part of the first Canadian flight, the hovercraft and lots of other inventions! His summer home was in Baddeck. We learned so much about him. Very interesting!

"Alexander Graham Bell and his wife came to Bras d'Or Lake in 1885, after the success of the telephone had freed him to do other experiments. They lived near Baddeck, creating work for locals in both traditional occupations such as farming and those related to his experiments. One of his most famous achievements was helping to design the Silver Dart, the first airplane to fly in Canada and the British Empire."

The "Silver Dart" plane that he invented...

Alexander Graham Bell and wife Mabel...

Here they are a little later...

We then headed on through Sydney, what seemed to be a very busy city after we had been so used to very small towns and quiet locations! We stopped to do a little banking. We hadn't seen any banks for days and hadn't had phone access for a while!

Bills still have to get paid...

In Sydney, Cape Breton

We parked for the night at the provincial park campground in Mira River, approximately 20 kms. south of Sydney.

Note... While I was finishing this post and uploading photos at a nearby service station with WiFi, I ate a lobster... amazing! The corner gas station with cooked fresh lobster! A whole lobster for $6.50! Lobster fishing is abundant right around here, the season being May 15 to July 15. Just caught the last of the fresh lobsters around here! Yum!
